How to Use OnSTAGE

Simple steps for teachers and students.

Teachers

Get started

  1. Open Register. Enter your name, school email, a password, and the access code from your school.
  2. After sign in, choose Teacher dashboard on the landing page, or go straight to your Teacher dashboard.
  3. Your dashboard shows which OnSTAGE tools your license includes: reading games, slide decks, Word Wisdom, and Teach by TEKS.

Make a class

  1. Under My classes, type a class name and select Create class.
  2. Give each student the class code, your last name, and a student identifier such as Student 4 or Dolphin. Real student names never go into OnSTAGE. See Choosing student identifiers for themed lists and a printable roster.
  3. Select Open to see the students, assign work, and view results.

Assign a passage

Students can choose freely on their own: any level, passage, and prompt. If you want them to work on one passage, open the class, check one or more students (or Select all), choose the level and passage, and save. Those students then see only your choice. Select Remove on a student to give free choice again.

When an assignment is saved, select Print or download passage to open a clean printable page. Print it or save it as a PDF for students who need a paper copy.

See student results

Open a class. Student results shows each student's latest activity results. Select any result to see the full detail, including which questions were answered and whether the student proved the answer with the correct sentence.

Interactive Reading Tools

OnSTAGE includes interactive reading activities that students open on their own devices. Each one uses a Teach BIG passage with social studies and science content.

Prove It!

Answer a reading question, then tap the exact sentence in the passage that proves the answer. Students build the habit of going back to the text for evidence.

Paraphrase It!

Pick the strongest paraphrase, spot the trap, then write an original paraphrase. Rounds get harder as students move through the levels.

Figure It Out!

Spot figurative language in the passage, figure out what it means, and explain why the author used it.

Prosody Marks

Read with marks that tell your voice what to do: up, down, stretch, zoom, breathe, and big words. Builds reading fluency through guided practice.

Reading Slide Decks

Every weekly set is a Triplet: the class slide deck, the teacher script, and the student tracking sheet. One slide a day across the five RPLD thinking levels: Notice, Choose, Show, Own, Defend.

Deck sets included with OnSTAGE

On each deck page, tap Grade 3, Grade 4, or Grade 5 to filter the list. Specialized Triplet sets appear with week badges beside the full year sets.

Word Wisdom

Word Wisdom covers syllables, spelling, vocabulary, context clues, and morphemes. Each weekly set is also a Triplet: class deck, teacher script, and student tracking sheet.

Teach by TEKS

Teach by TEKS builds a full GRADUATE week from the TEKS you choose. Pick the reading TEKS your district scope calls for, and get a complete week: deck, script, lesson plan, and tracking pages. Teach by TEKS is included with the Subscriber Vault on Pick 3 and Complete Set licenses.

Spanish side by side

Spanish side by side puts English and Spanish next to each other for emergent bilingual students. In the class, the Spanish side by side column has one check box per student, so you can turn it on for the students who need it. It shows the directions, the prompt, and the feedback in both languages. A student can also turn it on for themselves.

Students

  1. Go to Student: Join Class.
  2. Type your homeroom or content teacher last name, then the class code, then the student identifier your teacher gave you (like Student 4 or Dolphin). Do not type your real name.
  3. Pick a reading activity and play. Your teacher sees your results.
  4. If your teacher turned on Spanish side by side, you see English and Spanish next to each other.

Students do not need a password. If you use a different computer, join again with the same teacher name, class code, and student identifier.

No student names. Students use teacher assigned identifiers only. OnSTAGE never asks for a student name or collects student email addresses.
